“Not every hidden gem is hidden by location. Some are hidden by familiarity.”
The entrance is impossible to miss.
And yet, most people do.
Not physically, of course. Hundreds walk past every day. But few seem to stop.
I’ve passed it myself countless times.
The coffeeshop sits along a busy stretch where people are usually heading somewhere else. The MRT station is nearby. So is a bus stop. Most footsteps have a destination attached to them.
Today, I slowed down.
The stalls were busy enough to stay open, quiet enough to avoid attention. A few tables were occupied by regulars who looked completely at home.
Nothing about the place demanded recognition.
That’s probably why I liked it.
There’s a tendency to think hidden gems must be tucked away down alleys or hidden behind unmarked doors. But some places sit directly in front of us.
We just stop seeing them.
I ordered lunch and sat near the edge of the coffeeshop.
For a while, I watched people pass.
Most never looked in.
A few did.
Even fewer stayed.
Hidden Eats Around has never really been about finding the hardest places to reach.
Sometimes, the most overlooked places are the ones woven so completely into daily life that they become invisible.
This felt like one of them.
By the time I left, the crowd outside was moving as quickly as before.
The coffeeshop remained exactly where it had always been.
